Definition:
B'nai B'rith is a Hebrew phrase which literally means "Sons of the Covenant" and is
the name of the oldest and largest Jewish fraternal and charitable organization
in the United States. It was founded in New York City by a group of German-Jewish
immigrants in 1843 for the purpose of uniting Jews and promiting Jewish interests.
Today the number of members around the world is at least a half a million and
they are organized by local lodges.
