Definition:
The name Ashkenazi (which originally meant "German") is used to refer to any Jews who descend from whose who lived in northern Europe and whose customs generally derive from Germanic Judaism. The label Ashkenazi is usually used as a distinction from Sephardic Jews because the two groups developed two distinct cultures.
