Biography:
Abdollah Nouri is one of the most prominent and popular opposition leaders in the Islamic
Republic of Iran. Nouri management of an opposition newspaper which puplished articles
questioning Islamic government caused him to be put on trial and sentenced to a 5-year
prison sentence, starting in November, 1999. Nouri's popularity can be seen in the fact
that in February of 1999, he received more votes than any other candidate in
Tehran's first council elections.
