Definition: The Ismaili belong to a subsect of Shi'a Islam which, taking the label from Imam Muhammad ibn Ismail, the Seventh Imam.
Ismaili Shi'a doctrine is similar to that of the majority Twelver Shia Islam, for example with observance of the shari'a. However, it also includes a system of philosophy and science that is supposed to prove the divine origin of the Imamate and the rights of the Fatimids to it.
