Definition: This term refers to the ten who "received glad tidings" - the ten most distinguished followers of Muhammad. It is said that Muhammad foretold of their certain entrance into paradise because of their faithfulness.
These followers were: Abu Bakr, 'Umar, 'Uthman, 'Ali, Talhah, az-Zubayr, 'Abd ar-Rahman, Sa'd ibn Abu Waqqas, Said ibn Zayd and Abu Ubaida ibn al Jarrah.
