Definition: Ya'qub ibn Ishaq al-Kindi (d. after 866 CE) is widely regarded as the founder of Islamic philosophy. He became closely associated with the Mu'tazilah and worked to integrate Greek neoplatonist philosophy with Islamic dogma. He thus played an important role in the spread of Greek ideas through the Islamic world.
