Definition: In Islam, the term akhira is used to refer to the afterlife, both heaven and hell. After the last judgement, the the righteous will be sent to heaven and the damned will be sent to hell.
Heaven is portrayed as a sort of Paradise with physical and sensual pleasures, along with some spiritual pleasures as well. Hell (jahannam) also has its physical counterparts, involving fire and pain and torture.
