Definition: The name "Ahl-i Hadith" means "People of the Hadith" and is applied to a reform movement which arose in India during the 19th century. According to members, only the hadith had any validity for interpreting the Qur'an, thus rejecting both the four primary legal schools and the teachings of the various Sufi orders.
