Definition:
Science is all about acquiring reliable, accurate knowledge of the world around us. The word
science comes from the Latin scire, which means "to know."
The scientific method can be summarized as follows:
- Observe some aspect of our world.
- Create a theory consistent with the observation.
- Make testable predictions with this theory.
- Test the predictions with experiments or more observations.
- Modify the theory in the light of the new information.
- Go to step 3.
Science, properly done, needs to be distinguished from pseudoscience, junk science and pathological science.
