Definition:
Predestination refers to the idea that God has foreordained all things, especially the election of certain souls to eternal salvation. In Protestant Christian docrtine, predestination can take two forms: double and single.

Double Predestination is the idea that God has chosen some for eternal salvation in heaven and others for eternal damnation in hell.

Single Predestination is the idea that God has chosen some for eternal salvation in heaven, while simply allowing others to suffer the consequences of sin, namely eternal damnation in hell. There is no practical difference between the two, but the concept of single predestination allows the believer to imagine that God has no direct responsibility for some people being damned forever.

What is the Philosophy of Religion?
Sometimes confused with theology, the Philosophy of Religion is the philosophical study of religious beliefs, religious doctrines, religious arguments and religious history. The line between theology and the philosophy of religion isn't always sharp, but the primary difference is that theology tends to be apologetical in nature, committed to the defense of particular religious positions, whereas Philosophy of Religion is committed to the investigation of religion itself, rather than the truth of any particular religion.
