Definition:
Nineveh was the capital of the Assyrian empire during the 7th century BCE, the same
time when the Assyrians had conquered the northern kingdom of Israel and forced the
southern kingdom of Judah to pay tribute. Both the city of Nineveh and the Assyrian
empire are referred to regularly though the Old Testament, even in abook written long
after the empire had fallen.
