Definition:
In sociology, the term "master status" is used to refer to whatever quality of a
person so dominates how they are treated or viewed by others that all other qualities
are simply ignored. Everyone has several different qualities which define them
socially - mother, father, brother, sister, employee, etc., but some qualities are
regarded as so important that the others no longer matter. For example, when a person
is found to be gay or suffering from a mental illness, they will often then acquire
the label "gay" or "mentally ill" without regard to any of the other aspects of their
lives or persons.

What are Political and Legal Philosophy
The Philosophy of Politics and the Philosophy of Law are often studied separately, but they are presented here jointly because they both come back to the same thing: the study of force. Politics is the study of political force in the general community, while jurisprudence is the study of how laws can and should be used to achieve political and social goals.
