Definition:
The concept of intuition refers to any form of immediate, unverified and uninferred
knowledge. That it is immediate and unverified means that it does not rest upon
experience of the outside world. That it is uninferred means that it is not a
conclusion from some logical argument.
One form it can take is knowledge of some nonpropositional object, and through history there have been four types of such objects which people have claimed we can have intuitive knowledge of: universals, concepts, sensible objects and ineffable objects. All such arguments have been very problematic. Another form of intuitive knowledge which has been claimed has been for the truth of some proposition. Often the basis claimed for such knowledge is supernatural or paranormal.
