Definition:
As a philosophy, hedonism places stress on the pursuit and enjoyment of pleasure
as being the aim of a good life. In psychological hedonism, it is argued that everyone
already does whatever is desirable or pleasurable to them. In ethical hedonism, it
is argued that the ethics of an act is decided based upon whether or not the act
enhances a person's pleasure.
Utilitarianism, for example, is a form of universalistic ethical hedonism, arguing that ethical acts are ones which enhance the pleasure or well-being of the most possible people, universally.
