Biography:
Emanuel Haldeman-Julius descended from Russian-Jewish immigrants, was an author and editor who became emittered by class, ethnic and religious hostilities he encountered in the United States. As a result he was attracted to socialism and freethought.

In 1919 he began publishing a series of books called the People's Pocket Series - these were small, cheap paperbacks which brought literature, philosophy, science and more to the average person. In 1924 he renamed them the Little Blue Books and he later began published the Big Blue Books, similar volumes which were larger and thicker.
