Biography:
Kurt Gödel was a Czech logician and mathematician who became famous for
demonstrating that in any consistent, formal system which is powerful enough to
contain arithmetic, there must be at least one proposition in that system which
cannot be proven true or false by that system. Because of this, no such system
can demonstrate that it itself is consistent. This demonstration was called his "first
incompleteness theorem, but is usually simply labeled Gödel's Theorem.
