Definition:
The distinction between distributed and undistributed occurs in a term of a
proposition. A term is said to be distributed when the term refers to all members of a
class. A term is said to be undistributed when it refers to only some members of a
class. Thus, in the propositions "all p are q" and "all cats are mammals," the terms
"all p" and "all cats" are distributed because they refer to all members of the class
"p" or "cats." However, in the propositions "some p are q" and "some people are
doctors," the terms "some p" and "some people" are undistributed because they refer to
only some members of the class "p" or "people."
