Definition:
A decision theory is some theory on how to make a rational decision when faced with a
number of possible choices and without knowing for sure what the consequences of each
choice will be. Usually, a decision theory involves assigning various probabilities to
each of the choices in an effort to determine which one offers the best chances at the
best results. One of the problems inherent in any decision theory is that it is difficult
to determine just what counts as a "rational" decision.
