Biography:
Rudolf Carnap was a German philosopher who fled to America in 1935 because of the growing power of the Nazis. He was a leading developer of logical positivism, and argued that descriptions of reality can only be regarded as meaningful if they are derived from experience. Because of this, he also argued for eliminating the pursuit of metaphysics as a waste of time.
