Definition: Rudolph Carnap (1891-1970) was a German philosopher who fled to America due to the growing power of the Nazis. He was a leading developer of logical positivism, and argued that descriptions of reality can only be regarded as meaningful if they are derived from experience. Because of this, he also argued for eliminating the pursuit of metaphysics as a waste of time.
