Definition: In central and southern Africa, a number of religions are classified together under the name "Bantu" (the root ntu means "person"). Although there are quite a few differences among these religious traditions, there are also a number of important similarities which allows for the common classification. These similarities include a concern with ancestor veneration (because the spirits of the ancestors are involved with the protection of morality), a fear of black magic and witches, and a belief in a supreme god (even though this god is often ignored).
