Definition:
Apperception differs from perception in that perception is simply the awareness of of external objects, whereas apperception is the self-conscious awareness of both external and internal objects.

Self-conscious awareness of something external can occur when you are watching a movie, and are not only conscious of the fact that it is a movie, but also conscious of how it relates to your own life. Self-conscious awareness of something internal can occur when you are aware of how your own will operates.
