Definition: Cladistics is a specialized form of classification in the natural sciences which relies primarily upon dividing organisms based upon a quantitative analysis of comparative characteristics. Because of the reliance upon phylogenic relationships, cladistics is also sometimes known as "phylogenetic systematics."
