Definition: Young Earth Creationists believe that the universe is only a few thousand years old. Observations by astronomers, however, provide difficulties for this position because light from distant objects appear to have been travelling for millions and millions of years. A primary means used to address this issue is to claim that the speed of light has been "decaying" over time, such that it once travelled at speeds far in excess of what we have now. Thus, the light from objects far away can arrive here much more quickly than was previously imagined. Although there is no evidence at all for this theory, creationists continue to promote it as if it had validity and it is generally known by the label "c-decay."
