Definition:
In Hinduism, the cycle of the world is divided into four ages, or yuga. The
first is krta-yuga, which is a "golden age" during which there is a unity of
all things. The second is treta-yuga, during which righteousness begins its
inevitable decline. The third is dvapara-yuga, at which time righteousness
declines further and the Vedas become split. The fourth is kali-yuga and things
like despair and disease begin to dominate life. We currently live in the age of
kali-yuga.
