Definition: Vishnu was a relatively minor god in the Vedas, but he became a principle deity for the later Vishuite sect of Hinduism. Vishnu is believed to have appeared in many different incarnations, the most famous of which include Krishna, Rama and Buddha. These incarnations are typically savior-type figures, representing the fact that through Vishnu, life never really ends but continues, just in a different form.
