Biography:
Ramakrishna was a key figure in what became known as the Hindu renaissance of the 19th century. Eager to learn about religion from a young age, Ramakrishna had an enomrous impact on the people around him. Over time he manage to draw around himself a band of educated disciples who regarded him as a living incarnation of their ancient religious traditions and as a sign of how those traditions could acquire the vitality necessary for modern life. Some even thought he was the most recent avatar of God.
