Definition: Named after a religious teacher named Nichiren (1222-1282), this school of Buddhism focuses upon an absolute and dogmatic faith in the Lotus Sutra and in the cause of Japanese nationalism. Nichiren claimed to have been a personal disciple of the Buddha during a past life and contemporary adherents of his philosophy, aside from being intensely nationalistic, work to realize their goals through th constant repetition of magical words.
