Definition: The word kami is the Japanese term for "spirits," and is used to refer to any spirits or divinites, including mythological figures, the emporer, natural powers in inanimate objects like rocks, or even powerful religious figures. Kami can also refer to anything sacred and the veneration of kami is a principle aspect of the Shinto religion.
