Definition: ISKON, which stands for "International Society for Krishna Consciouness," is an American outgrowth of the bhakti yoga tradition in Hinduism. Devotion is characterized by the chanting of a mantra, worship at a temple, communal living, and simplified dress on the part of members, known as Hare Krishnas. Members also insist that Krishna is the "one supreme lord," a difference from mainstream Hinduism.
