Definition: The term ahamkara literally means "I-maker," and is regarded in Hinduism as the ego, or the sense of individual identity. In Hindu philosophy, the empirical world emerges because of the emergence of individual consciousness. Correspondingly, liberation of personal existence is achieved by negating individual identity.
