Definition:
Romanticism was an artistic and intellectual movement in Europe during the late 18th
century characterized by an interest in nature and an emphasis on the individual's
expression of emotion and imagination. Romanticism departed from the attitudes and forms
of classicism, materialism and rationalism in order to focus on subjective experience
rather than attempts to create an objective science.
