A 1960s reaction to
Abstract Expressionism,
Minimalism focused on creating art with simple geometric shapes. Especially valued was
the use of shapes which occurred with industrially produced objects, for example bricks
or tubes. Minimalism is often seen as a move away from brash, commercialized form and
towards simpler, classical design. Some famous minimalists include Dan Flavin, Donald Judd,
Sol Lewitt and Robert Ryman.
