Definition:
An allusion is some reference, either tacit or very overt, in one work of art to some other work of art.
Allusions can occur in pretty much any art form, whether visual, literary or musical. An allusion can
also be made in an art of one medium to an art in another medium - for example, a painting
can include an allusion to a famous novel or poem.
Sometimes, an allusion is simply used to display the knowledge of that work - for example, to show that the artist knows that similar themes have already been addressed. Other times, an allusion may be used to enrich a work of art by representing older themes in a new context.

In philosophy, aesthetics is the study of beauty and taste, whether in the form of the comic, the tragic or the sublime. Aesthetics has traditionally been part of other philosophical pursuits like the investigation of epistemology or ethics. However, it started to come into its own and become a more independent pursuit under Immanuel Kant, the German philosopher who saw aesthetics as a unitary and self-sufficient type of human experience. What is Philosophy?
