Argued: Everson v. Board of Education
Supreme Court decision finding that a New Jersey law providing for reimbursement to parents of parochial school students for transportation costs on public busses is constitutional.

1975
The U.S. Catholic bishops released the "Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Activities," a document describing a plan to work for the election of politicians and appointment of judges who would ensure the reversal of abortion rights in America.

1977
Egyptian President Anwar Sadat became the first Arab leader to address the Israeli Knesset (parliament).

1979
The Grand Mosque in Mecca was invaded by a group of extremist Ikhwan. Led by Juhaiman Ibn Mohammed Utaibi, a former Saudi National Guardsman, the group was seeking an even greater control of Saudi society by fundamentalist Muslim religious leaders.

1998
Afghanistan's Taliban militia offered a safe haven to Osama bin Laden.
