French king Louis VIII dies in Auvergne while returning to northern France from the Cathar Crusade in southern France.

1308
John Duns Scotus, Franciscan theologian and philosopher, died in Cologne, Germany.

1884
Hermann Rorschach was born.

1919
Philip Julian Klass is born in Des Moines, Iowa. Klass would become one of America's prominent skeptical investigators of alleged UFO sightings. He travelled widely and wrote a large number of books and articles on the subject. Even believers in UFOs had to acknowledge his tireless work on behalf of the truth.

1935
Elisabeth Foerster-Nietzsche, sister of Friedrich Nietzsche, died in Weimar, Germany.

1956
Following a cease-fire agreed to the day before, the United Nations General Assembly called for the removal of all British, French, and Israeli troops from Egypt. Israel promised to withdraw once a stable U.N. police force entered the area.

2004
In Eindhoven, Netherlands, a Muslim school is bombed in an apparent revenge attack for the murder of Theo van Gogh. Van Gogh had been murdered on November 2 and several mosques were subsequently attacked throughout the Netherlands.
