Pope Innocent VII died.

1494
Birth of Sulieman (Suleyman) "the Magnificent," sultan of the Ottoman Empire. During Sulieman's reign the Ottoman Empire would reach the height of its power and influence.

1789
Father John Carroll was elected the first Roman Catholic bishop in the United States.

1912
Vashti Ruth Cromwell was born

1967
Madalyn Murray O'Hair made her first appearance on the Phil Donahue show.

1990
Decided: Webster v. New Lenox
Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that school boards have the right to prohibit teaching creationism because such lessons would constitute religious advocacy.

1991
Argued: Lee v. Weisman
When this case was decided, the Court ruled in a 5-4 Court Decision that the graduation prayer during school graduation violated the Establishment Clause.

2002
The Board of Directors of the American Association for the Advancement of Science issued a resolution (passed the previous month) stating that Intelligent Design Theory had no place in the science classes of public schools.

2005
Installation of the Guru Granth Sahib. Sikhs commemorate the date when Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Guru, passed the guruship to the Sikh Holy Scriptures (the Guru Granth Sahib Ji)
