The Council of Chalcedon was closed.

1168
Amalric I, King of Jerusalem, massacres the inhabitants of Bilbeis, a fortress city on the eastern edge of the southern Nile delta in Egypt. The harsh treatment of locals manages to turn most Egyptians against the Crusaders, even the Coptic Christians who might have otherwise provided valuable aid and intelligence.

1478
Pope Sixtus IV issued a papal bull extending the power of the Inquisition to Spain.

Julius II was elected pope

Michelangelo's paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel were first shown to the general public.

1885
Pope Leo XIII declares in his Immortale Dei that the Catholic church is "a society chartered of divine right, perfect in its nature and in its title, to possess in itself and by itself, through the will and loving kindness of its Founder, all needful provision for its maintenance and action"

1946
Karol Wojtyla, later Pope John Paul II is ordained priest on the Feast of All Saints.

1950
Pope Pius XII proclaimed the dogma of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

1970
Marcel Lefebvre founds the Society of St. Pius X. Lefebvre would break with Rome following the Second Vatican Council and, over the years, consecrated hundreds of priests who agreed with his traditionalist views. This created the first schism in the Roman Catholic Church since 1870.

1988
Argued: Texas Monthly, Inc. v. Bullock
With Justice Brennan writing the majority opinion, the Court decided that exempting religious publications from the state sales tax violated the Establishment Clause.

2006
All Saints' Day and the Feast of All Saints. This feast is celebrated in the Christian Church to honor the martyrs and saints who have passed on and are already with God.
