Jacob Arminius died at the age of 49. Dutch theologian who lent his name to the beliefs (known today as Arminianism) which oppose the major tenets of Protestant Reformed (Calvinist) theology.

1900
Max Planck announced the basic elements of Quantum Theory at a meeting of the Berlin Physical Society.

1921
Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, was born.

2004
Eunice "Betty" Hill, who with her husband made the first modern claim of alien abduction, dies after a long bout with lung cancer. Betty and Barney Hill claimed to have encountered aliens while driving in the White Mountains in New Hampshire.

2005
Buddhists celebrate Kathina Day.
