Catholic and Protestant leaders met at the Colloquy of Poissy, convened near Paris. This council developed a 1562 edict which offered greater of freedom to French Protestants.

1585
Cardinal Richelieu of France was born.

1972
Following Israel's reprisals for the Munich Olympics terrorist attacks, Israeli and Syrian warplanes engaged in combat - ending a truce that had lasted more than two years.

1982
Gunmen attack a kosher restaurant in Paris, France, killing six people and wounding another 22.

1993
Israel and PLO leaders agreed to recognize each other.

1997
Sinn Fein, the IRA's political ally, formally renounced violence and took its place in talks on Northern Ireland's future.

Jerry Falwell stated: "Since the Antichrist will not be revealed before Jesus comes, I believe conditions are falling in place, i.e., one-world government, so he can rule the world after Jesus comes. But we're moving toward a one-world government through the United Nations, through the world court and a growing world opinion. The problem is that the one-world opinion is taking the side of the Palestinians, not the side of Israel."
