Pope Clement VII and Emperor Charles V signed the Peace of Barcelona. Charles received concessions that helped him in his war against France, but in return promised to help Clement against Martin Luther and his followers.

1875
The first 'Holiness' conference began at Keswick, England.

1892
In a letter to his mentor Josef Breuer, Sigmund Freud made his first references to the unconscious and to unconscious motivation.

1895
Thomas Henry Huxley dies.

1908
With the publication of the apostolic constitution Sapienti consilio, Pope Pius X caused the American Catholic Church to cease being a "missionary church" under the control of the Congregation de Propaganda Fide. Now, it was a full-fledged member of the Roman Catholic Church.

1936
Pius XI issued an encyclical to American bishops entitled "On motion pictures"

1951
Joseph Ratzinger, the future Pope Benedict XVI, and his brother Georg Ratzinger, are ordained to the priesthood by Cardinal Michael Faulhaber in the Freising Cathedral.

1967
Jerusalem is reunified under Israeli control.

1989
Decided: Mueller v. Allen
The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that a Minnesota law allowing parents to make tax deductions for expenses incurred through things like textbooks and other supplies at private schools is constitutional, even thought most of the benefit goes to religious and not secular schools.

1992
In Planned Parenthood vs. Casey, the Supreme Court upheld a Pennsylvania law mandating a 24-hour waiting period, anti-abortion counseling, and parental consent for minors.

2002
Romulo Antonio Braschi, founder of a Catholic schismatic movement, ordained seven women in Austria: Christine Mayr-Lumetzberger, Adelinde Roitinger, Gisela Forster, Iris Muller, Ida Raming, Pia Brunner and Dagmar Braun Celeste.

2004
In the case of Ashcroft v. ACLU, the United States Supreme Court rules that the Child Online Protection Act probably violates the First Amendment and orders a lower court to rehear the case.

2006
Christians celebrate the Feast Day of Saints Peter and Paul.
