Amalric I, King of Jerusalem, leaves Egypt before Shirkuh and a Syrian army arrive.

1492
Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile, later benefactors of Christopher Columbus, end Muslim rule in Spain by conquering Granada, last Muslim stronghold. With the help of Torquemada, Grand Inquisitor, they also force the conversion or expulsion of all Jews in Spain.

Birth of Mehmed IV, future sultan of the Ottoman Empire.

Mormon leader Brigham Young surrenders to federal officials so that he could stand trial for bigamy. The Supreme Court would annul the proceedings in May.

Aimee Elizabeth Semple, who would later found the Foursquare Gospel church, was ordained to the ministry in Chicago with her husband Robert Semple.
