Temple of Poseidon: Naos Columns

Inside the Temple of Poseidon there are a number statues and vases throughout the temple pointing to Hera-worship here. This color photograph focuses on the two-tiered inner columns of the naos, divided by two rows of 7 two-tiered columns. All of the lower tier have survived, but only some of the upper tier remain.

In line with its younger age, the style is far less archaic than the other two temples of Paestum. Some have argued that the early presence of Hera-worship here suggests the presence of goddess-worship even prior to the arrival of Greeks, but that is purely speculation.
