Hera Face

The worship of Hera can be traced back a many centuries. Her primary cities where worship of her was most prominent included Olympos, Samos (where she was believed to have been born) and Argos. The Illiad records her saying that Argos, Mycenae and Sparta were dearest to her. There was a famous sanctuary to her in Sparta on a hill that dates back to the 8th century BCE and references to her have been identified on Mycenaeant tablets.

With Zeus she had several children, including Hephaistos, Ares, and Hebe. Hera is usually depicted as a young women - not too young, like Aphrodite, but rather of an age that allows her to look stern or motherly. Her name itself, Hera, means Lady, and most references to her in ancient text stress her noble beauty and royal demeanor.
