Epidauros, View from the Top

Like all Greek theaters it is an open-air structure, allowing people to take advantage of the lack of walls or ceiling to incorporate the natural environment (like dawn or evening light) into the production. It is cut right into the hillside itself, creating a very natural effect (unlike Roman theaters, Greek theaters were created in natural hollows). Located in the Argolid hills near Nauplion, it affords a magnificent view of the surrounding area - good enough, in fact, to distract from the production on stage.
