At the center of the palace of Knossos was not a half-bull, half-man monster but a hall for religious ceremonies that contained an alabaster chair which is oldest throne in all of Europe. It may, however, have been used by the palace priestess rather than by the king himself. Some believe that the priestess sat here to conduct religious ceremonies.
What role the king himself played in these ceremonies is unknown, though the bull plays a dominant role throughout Cretan art so if he wore anything evoking a bull (like a bull mask), that would fit in with the Greek myths.
