Lemnia Athena (Detail)

 

Athena was regarded by the Greeks as being the goddess of weaving and other domestic activities of women, as well as olives and olive oil, pottery, and sculpture. She is often referred to as Athena Ergane, or Athena the Craftswoman. In fact, she can be described as the patron of handicrafts generally - including carpentry, metalworking, etc.
