Throughout the Classical and Hellenistic ages Artemis was almost always portrayed as a huntress: with bow, arrows, hunting dogs, and sometimes wild game. One of the most famous sculptures of Artemis the Artemis of Versailles (Artemis Agrotere), shown above, which can be seen today in the Louvre. This statue is very similar to the Apollo Belvedere and is a Roman copy of a late Classical work from around 300 BCE.
