Apollo, c. 600 BCE

 

Ancient Greek depictions of Apollo invariably show him as a young beardless man who is the epitome of physical grace, beauty, and strength. He is usually shown with a musical instrument, for example a lyre, though sometimes he is also portrayed with a bow and arrow. It's not uncommon for him to appear with animals, for example birds, and he also normally has a laurel with him.
