Cults dedicated to Aphrodite could be found all over Greece, though they matched the size and popularity of cults dedicated to other immortals. For the most part local cults honored her role in the process of human reproduction, a vital aspect of any community.
For this reason it wasn't uncommon for girls about to be married to prepare a special sacrifice to Aphrodite in order to ensure not only that their sexual experience go well but also that it be fruitful. This can be contrasted with the sacrifices they also made to Hera in order to ensure that the marriage itself be strong.
